后來(lái)他到了丹佛，在那里，他在里吉斯學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)醫(yī)學(xué)，但因?yàn)閿y帶大麻被捕，中途退學(xué)。隨后，他和伙伴丹·艾克洛德，吉爾達(dá)·拉德納以及約翰·貝魯希一起加入《全國(guó)諷刺電臺(tái)一小時(shí)》(National Lampoon Radio Hour)欄目。后來(lái)，其他三名伙伴成為《周六夜現(xiàn)場(chǎng)秀》(Saturday Night Live)節(jié)目創(chuàng)辦人，他加入了《霍華德·考塞爾周六夜現(xiàn)場(chǎng)秀》(Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell)節(jié)目。《霍華德·-考塞爾周六夜現(xiàn)場(chǎng)秀》宣布失敗后，他才有機(jī)會(huì)加盟《周六夜現(xiàn)場(chǎng)秀》，并那里很快成名，為以后電影界發(fā)展打下基礎(chǔ)。
其他
1979年，比爾·默瑞出演第一部影片《肉丸》(Meatballs)，從此一發(fā)不可收拾。隨著1982年的《杜絲先生》和1984年的《捉鬼敢死隊(duì)》的賣座成功，比爾·默瑞一躍成為80年代炙手可熱的喜劇明星。1990年，比爾·默瑞開(kāi)始嘗試執(zhí)導(dǎo)，影片《兩男一女三逃犯》的成績(jī)尚可。
而后幾年的喜劇作品，維持了其一貫的個(gè)人風(fēng)格。在影片《霹靂天使》中也有不錯(cuò)的表現(xiàn)。2003年，比爾·默瑞主演了女導(dǎo)演索菲亞-科波拉(Sofia Coppola )小成本電影《迷失東京》(Lost in Translation)，并憑此片入圍第76屆奧斯卡金像獎(jiǎng)最佳男主角。
